In a saga that has been on-going for over 9 months, Jameson Lopp has just announced a $100,000 reward to solve a case that law enforcement has been unable to.
Lopp is a well-known individual in the world of crypto. He was made famous not just through his endeavours to further the industry, but through a scary incident which took place in late 2017. A disbeliever of SegWit2x, Jameson had tweeted the following on Oct 16, 2017.

Whats the issue?
When Jameson voiced his opinion on twitter all those months ago, he was promptly swatted. For those that have never heard of this term, it is a common and dangerous ‘prank’. Commonly seen in the gaming industry, Swatting is when an individual calls in a fake situation to police. Stories are concocted with the intention of provoking a response from SWAT teams. These situations can be deadly however, and are no laughing matter. Callers will pose as the individual they are ‘pranking’, and inform police of a horrendous crime they just committed. The SWAT teams respond to the incidents, under the impression that the details are real. Sadly this prank actually led to the death of a young man recently. On December 28, 2017, Andrew Finch of Kansas was killed in his home due to swatting when another called in the hoax after an in-game video dispute.
In this particular instance involving Jameson Lopp, upon voicing his displeasure of enduring another month of SegWitx2 drama, an unhappy supporter of SegWitx2 played this prank.
In a released statement, Jameson has only now explained this entire story to the world at large. As police have been unable to solve the case of who did this, Jameson is offering the aforementioned $100,000 reward to whomever does. Along with announcing this bounty, Jameson also released a recording of the call that was placed. As can be heard in the following clip, horrific details are given, detailing murder, ransom, drug use, intent to kill, kidnapping and more.
As a result of the situation that occurred, Jameson has announced to the world that he has taken the necessary precautions to ward off further action again him. Beyond swatting, he believes that there are those that wish him harm through various means. These range from hacking him, to sending illegal goods to his residence. The precautions that he has taken due to these potential threats range from cameras, firearms, and new online security practices.
In a young and burgeoning industry, not everyone will be on the same page with regards to future development. To take such offence to another differing perspective that you swat them, is a cowardly action. Hopefully the bounty being offered by Jameson does the trick and this case is able to be solved soon. These types of situations have no place in cryptocurrency, and can only hinder the development of a fantastic industry.
